A dear friend reached out to request that I create a painting for her daughter Amy, proprietor of Moonlight Blooms, based on a gorgeous wedding bouquet she had created.  Once I saw the bouquet, I knew I had to do it.  Those dahlias in blush, coral, and all shades of pink really got me.  And the creamy yellow roses setting them off…just wow!  Flowers are used to create moments of beauty and awe not only in our everyday lives, like having a vase of flowers on your kitchen table, but also in our special moments of celebration and commemoration, bringing peace, love and grandeur to our spaces and to the people we are celebrating.  I painted this piece in acrylics on canvas.  I brought some edginess to the composition of this painting in response to the time-honored beauty of the bouquet.  For example, the flowers are spilling off the sides of canvas, and I put the front-facing dahlia off-center, letting the left-sided greenery balance out the canvas.  The title of this painting is taken from the John Lennon song called Mind Games.  The full line says, “Love is the flower you’ve got to let grow.”   I thought it was the perfect encapsulation of everything these blooms represent: the growth of Amy’s business; the love that this bouquet is honoring; and the flowers themselves—striking, magnificent, and lush, like love itself.
